MORRIS – Nine new ornaments artistically crafted by Lakeview High School sophomore Ben Fitzgerald are hanging from the Christmas Tree in the Reading Room in Town Hall.

Ben, who lives in Torrington and is enrolled in the agriculture science and technology program at the school, makes and sells ornaments as a business. He visited the Reading Room on Thursday to present the ornaments to Reading Room Committee President Jeff Crane, Curator Jamie Keppler and Treasurer Carrie Keppler.

Ben creates the ornaments by dipping them into a combination of water, paint and nail polish. The finished product carries a glossy and colorful look.

“Making ornaments is something he’s good at and enjoys,” Ben’s mom, Danielle Verderame said.

Her son’s craft, Danielle said, is providing him with a vocation as he progresses through high school as a student with autism. Ben also paints and draws.

“He loves art,” Danielle said. “It’s a great way for him to express himself.”I
